About Us – Burdwan is an anglicized form of the Sanskrit word Vardhamana. Barddhamana means flourishing expansion centre as a milestone of enlargement and affluence. In the 17th-18th century, Krishnaram Ray, belonging to a mercantile family unit from Punjab,recognized the zamindari of Bardhaman on a farman issued by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.  The Ray family continued to rule Bardhaman till 1955.
