About National Institute of Fashion Technology
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a group of fashion colleges in India. It was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles of Government of India and is an institution of design, management, and technology for the international fashion business.
National Institute of Fashion Technology was given statutory status in 2006, it was empowered to give degrees and other academic discrimination.
NIFT was established in Delhi in 1986 and in its first year, there was only one program of fashion design. The premises started working in a temporary two-room initially established in its early years and moved to a full compartment in 1994. The building designed by Dr. B.V. Doshi is based on the concept of central step-welfare for the conservation of rainwater.

In the ranking of the world’s best fashion schools in 2017, the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, was ranked 19th.
To secure admission in Master of Design (MDS) programs along with the Bachelor of Design (BDS) in NIFT, students need to take two written entrance exams: Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT).
For technology and management programs – Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTECH), Master of Fashion Technology (MFTECH) and Master of Fashion Management (MFM) – Candidates are required to qualify in the national level entrance test.
